A day after three children were found chained by their legs inside a madrassa in Bengaluru, a tuition teacher has been booked for allegedly assaulting a 7-year-old girl.
Reports say that the girl, a student of St Joseph’s school, was beaten with a leather belt for not completing her homework on Tuesday night in Nelamangala.
The teacher has been identified as 40-year-old Latha, who has reportedly in the past beaten her students for poor academic performance.
The girl’s parents alerted the police after they found bruises on her back when she returned home on Tuesday.
A police complaint was then filed against the teacher, who is now absconding. A case has been filed under sections 324,504 of IPC and section 82 of Juvenile Justice Act.
A police officer told The New Indian Express, “It’s shocking that whenever such instances occurred, parents blamed their children thinking that Latha was doing the right thing and their wards would study well."
Kripa Alva, chairman of Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights told The News Minute that the commission has taken suo-motu cognizance of the matter and will summon the teacher.
