Bengaluru: Traffic rules to watch out for as you step into New Year

The Bengaluru city police have put in place several measures regarding the deployment of police, traffic diversions, and other restrictions on New Years’ Eve.

Bengaluru will see over 11,000 police personnel deployed across the city and 89 platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police and 23 platoons of the City Armed Reserve. 

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has said that elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure no untoward incidents occur, but called on people to behave responsibly. “Conisder this as a request or a warning. No one should break the law during New Year celebrations. During the celebrations, we should maintain decency,” he said

Bengaluru City Police have put in place several restrictions including the closing off of all flyovers in city limits - except the airport flyover - between 11pm on December 31,  until 6 am of the following day. Two-wheelers will not be allowed on any flyover between 10 pm on December 31 up to 6 am on January 1. 

Police have also placed restrictions on traffic in parts of the city where large numbers of people are expected to gather, such as MG Road, Brigade Road, 100 ft Road in Indiranagar and Koramangala, Phoenix Mall of Asia on Bellary Road, Orion Mall, and Whitefield.

Traffic restrictions:

  • Brigade Road: No vehicles except for police and emergency vehicles will be allowed around Brigade Road between 10pm on December 31 and 2am on January 1. This rule affects the following roads around MG Road: Anil Kumble Circle area, Mayo Hall, Residency Road junction, Church Street, Museum Road, Old Madras Bank Circle (SBI) off Museum Road, and Rest House Road. 

  • Parking will be allowed in the 1st floor of the shopping complex in Shivajinagar BMTC bus stand, Garuda Mall and Cubbon Park (Bal Bhavan). 

  • Parking will not be allowed on 80 feet road, 12th Main Road, and Double Road Indiranagar. 

  • Vehicles will not be allowed to stop on ITPL Main Road, Hoodi Metro Station to Graphite India junction in Whitefield

  • No vehicles will be allowed from National Games Village to UCO Bank Road, Sukhsagar Junction on YD Math Road to Microland junction, JNC Road, 4th B Cross Road, 17th H Main Road in Koramangala
