Written by : TNM Staff

In a shocking incident, a one-and-half-year-old boy, Firoz, was killed in Yelahanka by a drunken 18-year-old boy on Saturday. Murthy Vadivelu is alleged to have murdered the infant, following a fight with the victim’s father, as revenge.

Rafiqh, Firoz’s father, owned a waste segregation unit where Murthy, who is a native of Krishangiri, was working there.

According to the statement given by Rafiqh to the police, he went along with Murthy to a bar on Saturday. The two later went to pick up Firoz and headed to a shop nearby. Rafiqh had left the child with Murthy as he had some work to be done. He alleged that Murthy took the boy to an isolated place and killed him.

According The Hindu report, failing to trace the two, Rafiqh then filed a missing complaint with the police.

However, when the police questioned Murthy, he confessed to the crime and led the police to the murder spot at the Air Force station campus near Goraguntepalya, off Tumakuru Road, where the infant was found beneath a boulder.

The Hindu quoted T.R. Suresh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) saying, “Though Murthy has said he was upset with Rafiqh and wanted to take revenge, we are probing further for the motive behind the murder.”

The TOI report said that the police are investigating whether Murthy, who is addicted to sniffing whitener, murdered the child while under the influence of the drug.
