The Bengaluru Police have arrested a 25-year-old man from Bihar for posting an AI-generated video showing a bomb blast at Vidhana Soudha, the seat of the Karnataka government.
The accused, identified as Hazrath Ali Shoiab, is a native of Bihar’s Araria district and had been working as a daily-wage pipe fitter in Bengaluru for the past few months, police said.
The FIR invokes Sections 353(1)(b) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Section 353(1)(b) penalises false information likely to cause public fear or alarm that could lead to an offence against the State or public tranquillity, while Section 353(2) covers false information likely to promote enmity or ill will between groups. Both provisions carry a punishment of up to three years in prison, a fine, or both.
According to the complaint filed by a police inspector at Vidhana Soudha police station, the video was detected during social media monitoring at 9.26 am on October 20. It was posted on an Instagram account named jnx_king_h_g with the caption “Vidhanasabha Uda Diya Bam se” (Vidhana Soudha was blown up with a bomb).
The video shows a person making a gun-cocking gesture before AL-generated footage depicts an explosion at the building. It circulated on social media, prompting users to tag Bengaluru Police and demand action. The Instagram account has since been deactivated.
Police registered the case after a preliminary inquiry into the complaint. They said the video was artificially generated and no actual explosion had taken place.
The accused is being questioned to establish the motive behind the post and determine whether anyone else was involved in creating or editing the footage. Further investigation is under way.
