Bengaluru man on vacation killed in Pahalgam terror attack

Two men from Karnataka, Bharat Bhushan and Manjunath Rao, were killed in the terror attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22. Two teams from Karnataka are coordinating to bring back their mortal remains.

Bharat Bhushan, a 41-year-old former techie and resident of Bengaluru, was among those killed in the terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22. 

Hailing from Haveri district, Bharat Bhushan moved to Mathikere in Bengaluru a few years ago. Bharat was formerly employed with a tech firm but was currently running his own diagnostic centre, according to media reports.

He had reportedly gone to Kashmir three days ago with his wife, Sujatha, and their three-year-old son.  

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, who is in Kashmir for a Public Accounts Committee meeting, met Sujatha and assured them of help. Tejasvi said on X that he had arranged for their stay in Anantnag after speaking to the local administration.

The government has made arrangements to bring the mortal remains of Bharat Bhushan to Bengaluru via a flight from Mumbai. The flight from Srinagar will take off at 3pm on Wednesday, April 23. Six other people from Karnataka will also return to the state on the same flights. 

The mortal remains of Manjunath Rao, who was also killed in the attack, will be brought to Shivamogga via New Delhi and Bengaluru. The flight is scheduled to depart from Srinagar at 6pm on April 23. Manjunath’s wife and son will also return via the same flight. 

Following the attack on April 22, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held an emergency meeting with officials. A team of officials and another one of police personnel have been sent to Kashmir to make arrangements to bring back the bodies of the deceased and assist the survivors. Labour Minister Santhosh Lad also flew to Kashmir on April 22 to oversee relief efforts.
