The Bengaluru City police on Tuesday inaugurated a cyber crime police station at the City Police Commissioner’s office on Infantry Road to specifically deal with cyber crimes, reported Deccan Chronicle.

This is the sixth such station in the state. Like in the other stations, officials of the CID will manage this centre too for two years, provide training to personnel and then hand it over to the city police commissionerate, states the report.

Deccan Chronicle quotes DG & IGP Om Prakash as saying, "In 2013, the state government had sanctioned the opening of six cyber police stations across the state. The cyber police stations in Mysuru, Kalaburagi, Dharwad, Davanagere and Mangaluru are already being operated by the sleuths of Crime Investigation Department (CID)."

"The citizens of Bengaluru city, Bengaluru rural, Ramanagar, Tumakuru, Kolar, Chikkaballapura and KGF can file complaints in this police station. Cyber offences like the debit/credit card frauds which are more than a lakh and online scams which is more than Rs 5 lakh can be registered in this police station, while the rest of the cyber crimes complaint can be filed at local police station. The local police stations can transfer the case if they find it difficult to crack," he added.
