Bengaluru boy Lakshay in coma after surgery, taken off ventilator support

Written by : TNM Staff

Nearly twenty days after 5-year-old Lakshay slipped into coma after undergoing a surgery, he was taken off ventilator support on Tuesday.

The Times of India reports that the boy opened his eyes for only a few seconds. “Doctors told us there is very little chance of him recovering completely,“ Lakshay's father Purushottam DS was quoted as saying.

On June 10, he underwent a surgery at Mallya Hospital after hurting his finger while at school, after which he slipped into coma and was put on ventilator support. He was later admitted to Manipal Hospital.

The doctors at Mallya hospital said that the boy had slipped into coma due to complications.

The boy’s family had expressed concern over the boy recovering completely and had told The News Minute that there was some problem while administering the anesthesia.

TOI reports that the boy is suffering from neurological deficit, according to doctors at the Manipal hospital. The Karnataka State Commission for Child Rights has sought a report from the hospital.
