Bengaluru: 28-year-old domestic worker sexually assaulted and murdered

The victim's body was found a kilometre away from the apartment where she was working.

A 28-year-old woman, employed as a domestic worker in an apartment complex, was found dead on the Kalkere Lake bed in Ramamurthy Nagar in Bengaluru on Friday morning, January 24. According to police, she was allegedly sexually assaulted and killed.

Joggers alerted the police after discovering the body on the lake bed. D Devaraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Division), said that the victim’s body showed signs of severe injuries. "Preliminary investigation revealed that she was sexually assaulted before being killed," Devaraj added.

According to police, the victim went to work at DSR Apartments in Ramamurthy Nagar on Thursday but did not return home. Her husband, Suman, waited until Thursday night before filing a missing person’s complaint on Friday morning. Following the discovery of the body, the police took him to the site, where he confirmed the victim was his wife. The body was found a kilometre away from the apartment where she was working.

According to the police, she did not possess legal documents or a passport and had entered India illegally from Bangladesh. A case of sexual assault and murder has been registered by Ramamurthy Nagar police.
