Written by : TNM

The State Election Commission (SEC) has started making preparations for the much delayed Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections, tentatively fixing July 26 as the polling date, reported Deccan Herald. The announcement of calendar of events such as code of conduct, declaration of result, etc. is likely to be made in the last week of June. The State government had been trying to stall the elections by filing petitions in the Karnataka High Court and Supreme Court. However, the apex body had directed the state to hold elections before August 5.The government has once again filed an appeal in Karnataka High Court seeking postponement of elections, the judgement of which is yet to be delivered.Additionally, the state government has not provided the SEC with ward-wise reservation list, which includes 50 per cent of the total 198 seats being reserved for women. The list is necessary for the election body to finalise the election process, sources told the paper.
