BBMP elections in the last week of July - Minister Ramalinga Reddy

Written by : TNM

Transport Minister and Bengaluru city-in charge minister Ramalinga Reddy on Monday said that elections to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) would be held in the last week of July. The decision was taken after the Supreme Court verdict which directed the State government to conduct the polls within three months. The government which had already prepared the reservation matrix, was scrapped and a new one would soon be announced for all 198 wards, the minister told the Deccan Chronicle. The BBMP elections would be held soon after the gram panchayat elections which is scheduled for May 29 and June 2.Reddy also remarked that the projects which had been initiated under the JNNURM scheme had come to a halt as the present NDA government had done away with the scheme and hence there was no financial sanction. He, however, clarified that the state government would complete all the projects within 2 years by utilising the funds under "Nagarotthana scheme".
