BBMP elections to be held on August 22, results three days later

 The State Election Commission (SEC) on Thursday announced polls to the Bengaluru civic corporation would be held on August 22 and counting on August 25."With polling in 198 civic wards of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) across the city re-scheduled to August 22, the model code of conduct would come into force from Friday," Karnataka state election commissioner P.N. Srinivasachary told reporters in Bengaluru.According to the calendar of events, the BBMP commissioner will notify the polls on August 3, last date for filing nominations is on August 10, last date for withdrawal is on August 13, polling on August 22, re-polling, if necessary, on August 24, and counting of votes on August 25.The SEC had to re-schedule the civic poll from July 28 after the Supreme Court on July 4 granted it eight weeks more on the Karnataka government's request to complete the delimitation of wards as per the 2011 population census.IANS
