The News Minute | September 30, 2014 | 9.56 am ISTAttempt to click a selfie killed an engineering student in Mangalore on Sunday.The girl was so engrossed in clicking a selfie standing on a railway track that she failed to notice a train that was approaching.  Varsha, resident of Derebail, was returning to her hostel along with five of her friends. They had to cross a railway track near Puttur to reach their hostel. The students belonged to the Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur, reported the Times of India. Varsha was knocked off by the Subrahmanya-Puttur-Mangalore passenger train. The impact was so strong that her skull was ripped off, and her friend Rachana lost her arm. It is still not clear whether the students failed to notice the approaching train all together or noticed it too late. Varsha died on the spot and Rachana was taken to a private hospital. The railway police inspector, Tharanath K, said that the spot was along a curved stretch of track making it difficult for people to spot any approaching trains.
