Around 884 Karnataka villages chosen for PM Modi's 'Digital India' campaign

Image courtesy: Digital India's Facebook pagePrime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to tie up with the private sector to make his “Digital India” campaign a reality and to introduce broadband connection in 2.5 lakh villages by 2016, according to a report in Public TV.The Centre has decided to introduce broadband connection in 2000 villages across India on a pilot basis. Of this, 884 villages have been chosen in Karnataka alone to receive broadband connection.Villages in Kerala, Puducherry, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Tripura states have also been chosen to be part of the trial.The project will be used for delivering services such as banking, health, employment and other government related services. If the programme implemented succeeds, the government aims to provide broadband services at a speed of upto 100 Mbps in all the gram panchayats, added the report.
