Appoint permanent psychiatrist at Parappana Agrahara jail: Karnataka HC directs state government

Written by : TNM

Slamming the state government for not carrying out its duties, the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed the government to appoint a permanent psychiatrist for the Central jail at Parappana Agrahara in Bengaluru at the earliest. At present, psychiatrists from government hospitals attend to patients in the jail on a rotation basis, states a report by The Times of India.  According to the report, the division bench headed by Justice N Kumar observed, "Is the government functioning or not? Why a permanent psychiatrist was not appointed to Central Jail where 200 odd patients require treatment. Even though directions have been issued to Home Secretary on June 4, 2014 itself, the same has not bee done. We cannot issue directions to every department that needs to discharge its duties from time to time. So appoint permanent psychiatrist to Central Jail at the earliest."
