BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa on Sunday said that the alleged anti-India slogans at an event organized by Amnesty International in Bengaluru was a “repeat performance of what happened in Jawaharlal Nehru University a few months back.”

Declaring that anti-India slogans were indeed raised at the event, Yeddyurappa sent a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

The New Indian Express reports that the BJP has demanded that the central government take up the matter and carry out stringent measures against those who raised the slogans. BJP also demanded that Amnesty’s role in organizing the seminar must be probed.

The event ‘Broken Families’ was held at United Theological College on Saturday, to draw attention to the alleged human rights’ violations in Kashmir by armed forces. Anti-India slogans were reportedly raised after one of the speakers at the event spoke in favour of the forces.

ABVP activists had on Sunday protested outside the college demanding the arrest of those who raised the slogans. The also blackened the college boards. 30 ABVP members were later taken into custody.

TNIE quotes Basavaraj, office secretary, ABVP, as saying,  “We have filed a complaint with J C Nagar police, who are yet to register it. As it was a interaction programme, two members from ABVP were also present at the venue. The slogans were raised after a speaker started it. There were a few Kashmiris, including Kashmiri Pandits, an ex-serviceman and a few speakers, who wanted to speak for the Indian Army, but were interrupted. Then, the slogans against the Indian Army were raised.”

Deputy Commissioner of Police T Suresh said that an FIR will be filed only after receiving evidence. He said that penal action would be initiated only after the complaint and video footage of the event are thoroughly examined.
