How do women reclaim their voice in a world determined to dim it?
A woman accused of art theft. A respected professor of literature. A Gen Z woman with a restless defiance. And a young documentary maker, watching all three. Their stories collide in Silhouettes, Sandhya Gokhale’s English play, which comes to the Good Shepherd Auditorium in Bengaluru at 6 pm on October 10.
Amol Palekar, Sandhya Gokhale, and the cast are staging this play as a fundraiser in support of The News Minute. Come watch the play and support independent journalism.

The play
Silhouettes follows Greta, Maya, and Deep, three women navigating the pressures and invisible wounds of a patriarchal world.
Greta stands accused of art theft. Maya is a respected professor of literature caught in the gaze of Aakash, a young male documentary maker. Deep carries a restless defiance that belongs to Gen Z.
As their truths come to light, each woman tries to take back control of her own narrative. What unfolds, as the team puts it, is not distant or imagined. It is the reality we live with every day.
Why 'Silhouettes'
A silhouette is an outline cast against light: visible, yet unfinished. It both hides and reveals, and marks existence while withholding detail. The play takes the silhouettes as a metaphor for women whose identities are framed by others, until resistance begins to redraw the figure on their own terms.
It depicts women we see all around us: women who are suppressed, footnoted, and erased.
But Silhouettes is not merely about victimhood. It is about the often-unnoticed ways women negotiate, subvert, and resist, and it asks what it means to claim your own voice when even recognition comes framed by others.
The writer and cast
Sandhya Gokhale has written eight acclaimed screenplays for feature films, including Anaahat, Paheli, and Quest, which have consistently foregrounded strong female characters. Silhouettes marks her return to theatre after Kusur, the celebrated play directed and performed by Amol Palekar.
The play is presented by Palekar and produced by Anaan Nirmitee. The cast includes Divya Seth, Niiya Kumar, Sarah Hashmi, and Karan Parab, with Palekar also on stage. The team says the production is poised to travel across states and eventually cross the seven seas.
