The police arrested a 20-year-old salesman from a shop near Christ University on charges of attempted rape.

Bangalore Mirror reports that the salesman, identified as Dilshad Khan, tried to rape an American student of the university earlier this week when she was in the trial room.

The American student had gone shopping for clothes at a nearby shop in the evening. There was only one salesman and no other customers were present at the time.

The report says that the salesman barged into the trial room and attempted to rape her, but the student managed to escape. Traumatised by the incident, she soon left for Delhi.

However, the student informed the resident director Jacob John about the incident via e-mail, who later went to the shop and clicked photos of the three men at the shop.

A police complaint was filed after the student identified the molester and the accused was arrested and later sent to judicial custody.

BM quotes a senior police official as saying, “We haven't met the student yet. Once she is back in the city, we will meet her and get her statement directly.”
