Kannada superstar Shivarajkumar is stable and recovering after undergoing cancer-related surgery in Florida in the United States.
Shivarajkumar underwent surgery to remove his bladder, which is affected by cancer, at the Miami Cancer Institute in Florida on Wednesday, December 25.
In a video statement released to the media, his doctor, Murugesh Manoharan, said the actor was recovering. Dr Manoharan said that the bladder was removed and an artificial one was constructed with tissue from the actor’s intestines.
The media reported that several fan associations offered pooja at temples across the state a day before the surgery.
He left for surgery a week ago with his wife Geetha and daughter Niveditha. While leaving, an emotional Shivanna, as he is popularly called, said, “The parameters are all good. But it is natural to be a little anxious when one is leaving home for surgery. I got a little emotional looking at my sister, relatives, and my fans. But otherwise, I’m confident.”
Several people, including film stars and politicians, had wished Shivarajkumar well before he left for the surgery.
He spoke about being ill in November, saying he too was a human. Although he did not mention that it was cancer at the time, he said, “At the end of the day, I am a human being. I have a health problem, and I am currently undergoing treatment for it. I have finished a couple of sessions of treatment, and a couple more are pending. After that, I will undergo surgery, either in India or the US,” he said in an interview.
Shivarajkumar had given the interview ahead of the release of his latest film, Bhairathi Ranagal, in theatres. The movie was released on the OTT platform, Amazon Prime, on December 25. The film is a prequel to the 2017 film Mufti.
The actor has said that he is likely to be back on January 26.
