A 21-year-old Master of Arts (MA) student from Bangalore University died by suicide in her hostel room at the Jnanabharathi campus on the morning of Monday, February 3. The deceased, identified as HN Pavana, was a native of Hebbalaguppe in HD Kote. She was in her third semester of postgraduate studies.
The incident came to light when Pavana's roommates, receiving no response from her, forced open the door of her room, which was locked from the inside.
The police told the media that a note, believed to be written by Pavana, was recovered from her room.
Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor Dr Jayakar Shetty said that the exact reasons behind the incident remain unclear.
The Jnanabharathi police have registered a case under the Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and an autopsy was conducted at the Victoria Hospital, after which the body was handed over to the deceased‘s family.
