150 school children taken ill after having mid-day meal

The News Minute | September 19, 2014 | 4.52 pm ISTAround 150 children were hospitalised after complained of uneasiness following the mid-day meal served at a government school in Bangalore on Friday.Students of the Government Urdu School in D J Halli in Bangalore, were taken to Dr B R Ambedkar Medical College in Kavalbyrasandra after they fell sick. Teachers called for ambulances to take the children to the hospital.Angry parents reached the hospital where scenes of confusion prevaailed. They alleged that hospital authorities were not responding in an adequate manner.Public Relations Officer of the Department of Public Instruction S K Suma told The News Minute that she did not know about the incident. Instead, she asked this correspondent how many children had been hospitalised and which school this had happened. Asked if this correspondent could call her back, Suma said that she could not speak to the media.Commissioner for Public Instruction Mohammed Mohsin could not be reached for comment.Minister for Health U T Khader visited the hospital and assured that an inquiry would be conducted. A doctor at the hospital said that they suspected food poisoning, but it could not be confirmed unless an inquiry was conducted.Hospital authorities allowed some of the children to leave after a few hours when their condition improved.
