Days ahead of the release of his latest film Kadaikutty Singam, actor Karthi went live via his Facebook page to chat with his fans. While opening up on the film, directed by Pandiraj, he also shared his dream of directing his brother actor Suriya. Having begun his career as an assistant director to Mani Ratnam in the 2004 film Aayutha Ezhuthu, which had Suriya in the lead, Karthi even has a script ready for his brother.

“When I was an assistant director, I was writing a script for anna only. Let’s see, someday if I impress him with my script I may get to direct him,” he said.

Kadaikutty Singam, produced by Suriya, marks the first time Karthi and director Pandiraj are working together. Karthi plays a farmer in the film and he apparently learnt farming to essay his part authentically. By accepting the role, he said in an interview to Deccan Chronicle that he wants to inspire younger generation to take up farming and go back to their roots. “I want to play the role of a farmer to inspire the younger generation to take up agriculture and go back to their roots.” He went on to add that by playing a farmer he can bridge the divide between rural Tamil Nadu and the urban youth who are largely disconnected from agriculture.

In the film, Karthi is paired with Sayyeshaa, last seen in Jayam Ravi’s Vanamagan. The film is Karthi’s maiden collaboration with 2D Entertainment, which is owned by Suriya and the company so far has produced films such as 36 Vayadhinile, 24 and Pasanga 2. Kadaikutty Singam, which also stars Sathyaraj, Bhanupriya, Priya Bhavani Shankar and Soori, has music by D Imman. Karthi’s next film will be Dev with debutant director Rajath Ravishankar. Prakash Raj, Ramya Krishnan, RJ Vignesh, Amrutha and Renuka form the supporting cast of the film which will also feature a special guest appearance from veteran actor Karthik, who was last seen in Mr Chandramouli.
