Will adapt ‘Queen’ to Southern sensibilities: Kajal Aggarwal on Tamil remake

Written by : TNM

The Tamil remake of Queen is still hanging by a thread. Having been announced once with Tamannaah Bhatia and later shelved, the project is now being revived with Kajal Aggarwal. Talking to Hindustan Times, Kajal confirmed signing the remake and said she’s thrilled. “I loved the story ever since I saw the original! But we have to remember that the film, since it was made a couple of years ago, will have to be changed to keep it in sync with the current times.”

Directed by Vikas Bahl, Queen featured Kangana Ranaut in an award-winning performance of Rani, a young girl, who goes on her honeymoon to Paris, after being dumped by her fiancée, played by Rajkummar Rao. Kajal is very particular that the original will be adapted to Tamil sensibilities.

“The makers of the film and I are very clear that we want to adapt Queen to Southern sensibilities, and do it our own way. While the script will essentially remain the same, the treatment will be personalised. I will also add my own touch to the role,” she said.

The film will be bankrolled by Manu Kumaran of production company Mediente, and will also be made in Telugu and Malayalam. Amy Jackson has been roped in to play Lisa Haydon’s role.

The film’s Kannada version stars Parul Yadav, and it has been titled Butterfly. The film went on the floors in June, and is being directed by Ramesh Arvind. Actress Revathy was originally supposed to direct all versions of the film’s southern remakes. However, when she backed out due to unknown reasons, Ramesh was approached with the offer and he bagged it.
