And Zuckerberg, like a sport, took it on. Zuckerberg posted a video of the challenge on his Facebook page. His reaction after he poured a bucket of ice cold water on himself? "That was really cold".Post by Mark Zuckerberg.He also nominated three other people for the challenege- Bill Gates, former Chief Executive, Microsoft, Sheryl Sandberg, COO Facebook, and Reed Hastings, CEO, Netflix. The ALS ice bucket challenge was introduced to spread awareness about the disease and also raise funds for the ALS Association. The challenge that is said to have took off around July 29 has taken the social media by storm. In the challenge, people pour ice cold water on themselves and post a picture or video on the internet, and also nominate three people to take on the challenge. The nominated participants get 24 hours to finish the task. Those who do not accept the challenge can donate to an ALS organisation.Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the ALS Association has received $5.7 million in donations.The Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) Association describes ALS as "a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord." This can often lead to complete paralysis. There is said to be no known cure for ALS.
