The News Minute | December 15, 2014 | 03:51 pm IST Almost 10 hours after the Sydney siege begun, where an armed man on Monday has taken several people hostage inside Lindt Chocolate Cafe in Sydney's central business district, a national news channel ran a story in connection to the 'ISIS' and social media.News X ran a tweet put out by Islamic State Media (ISM), which according to the channel is a 'ISIS Twitter account', reportedly threatening India. ISM's  tweet read,'It is just the beginning. We'll launch a huge hostage operation in Bangalore tomorrow in support of Shami. #LastWordsOFaJihadi.'This could have been a crucial piece of information, considering the Mehdi connect with Bengaluru. But in the rush to break the piece of information, the channel seems to have forgotten to carry out a bit of basic fact check. Islamic State media happens to be a parody account. Apart from NewsX running a news segment on the tweets, highlighting how India was possibly staring at a potential terror attack, the channel also put out tweets regarding the same. The channel apparently also spoke to the Bengaluru police. '#Bangalore Top Cop: Monitoring the concerned twitter account; will investigate the tweet. #SydneySiege', one of its tweets read. It might sound ironical that though the Islamic State Media has taken down their tweet, News X was still carrying the tweets it made on the basis of the former's tweet, at the time this piece was being written. Recent reports suggest that the News Broadcasters Association is now planning to look into the incident of the news channel quoting the parody account.
