The News Minute | February 26, 2015 | 07:34 pm IST Zomato, the Indian restaurant search app, in January 2015 acquired Urbanspoon, a Seattle-based food portal, for an undisclosed sum- reports peg the amount to be around $60 million. As part of its re-branding decision, Zomato recently changed its logo too. A report on Your Story quotes Deepinder Goyal, the founder and CEO of Zomato, explaining their reason behind changing the brand's logo."For us, this is a simple case of making sure that the transition (of merging Urbanspoon to Zomato) is the least painful for the most number of our users. We want to make sure that when we update the Urbanspoon app for millions of users, we don’t give them a new name and a new icon. Doing that could make it look like they installed the Zomato app by mistake, potentially leading to a large number of uninstalls.""For Zomato users, they get a new logo, but retain the name. Hopefully, that shouldn’t give us a large number of uninstalls (not much was lost when we moved to the Heart logo a couple of months ago)."The new logo is that of a spoon against a red background.Comedian and co-founder of All India Bakchod (AIB) Tanmay Bhat recently cracked a joke at Zomato's new logo. He tweeted, So glad Zomato changed their logo to a sperm pic.twitter.com/gQDTK6EGEG— Tanmay Bhat (@thetanmay) February 25, 2015Zomato proved it is just as sportive when it replied, @thetanmay So glad we managed to sneak that by the censor board ;)— Zomato (@Zomato) February 26, 2015However, it is not just Zomato but increasingly, it is seen, several organisations are moving out of the 'playing safe' zone, by interacting directly with customers and are not afraid to resort to humour or friendly banter. Recently, when a photograph of what looked like a Amazon package in a Flipkart office was doing the rounds on social media, Flipkart took to Twitter to reply to curious customers, "We recycled said packaging as our reception's dustbin". Read: When an Amazon package was found in Flipkart's office to know how Amazon replied.TweetFollow @thenewsminute
