The official trailer of Suriya’s upcoming film, NGK Nandha Gopalan Kumaran was released on Monday. Starring Suriya, Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead, this political drama has been written and directed by Selvaraghavan. The film will release on May 31, 2019.

Suriya is seen playing a spirited young man who has deep love for his country. The trailer begins with the crowd chanting ‘Vetrivel’ and we can see a life-sized cutout of Suriya. All through the video, Suriya is warned on how dirty politics can be with his own mother telling him ‘Politics is a graveyard. No one has returned alive by stepping into it.’

Actor Sai Pallavi too makes an appearance in the trailer, offering Suriya’s character words of wisdom. While there’s general mayhem, all of it changes when Suriya changes his appearance to look like an aspiring politician. There’s even a mole on his left cheek to indicate transformation.

The trailer promises an action packed movie with Suriya, the revolutionary, channeling a bit of Michael Vasanth, a character we saw him play in Mani Ratnam’s Ayudha Ezhuthu. Towards the end of it, we see Suriya and Rakul’s characters facing off in an intense fight inside a men’s toilet.

Like the teaser that ended with Suriya dressed in a white shirt, standing by the door and uttering the word, “Kaathiruppom” (we will wait), the trailer too ends on a similar note. To the question, ‘Will our party make it this time?’ a confident Suriya says, ‘We will, wait for it’.

Bankrolled by SR Prakashbabu and SR Prabhu under the banner Dream Warrior Pictures, the film has Yuvan Shankar Raja for music, Siva Kumar Vijayan for cinematography, and Praveen KL for editing.

NGK is Selvaraghavan’s first release in six years. His last directorial was Irandaam Ulagam starring Arya and Anushka Shetty that released in 2013. He also has two other delayed projects - Nenjam Marapadhillai, a Gothic horror film starring SJ Suryah, Regina Cassandra and Nanditha Swetha, and a romance drama titled Mannavan Vanthanadi starring Santhanam.
