'Singappenney' lyric video from Vijay’s upcoming sports drama Bigil was released on Tuesday. Sung by AR Rahman and Shashaa Tirupati, the 7.30-minute video begins with Atlee and lyricist Vivek sharing their specific requirements for how the song should sound to Rahman. “A women anthem. Dedicated to my mother, wife, friends… for all women… genuine and heart-full dedication,” explains Atlee while Vivek asks for a tune that subverts the ‘thee-puyal’  (fire-cyclone) for men and ‘poo-thendral’ (flower-breeze) for women stereotypes held in people’s minds.

Shot inside a dark room lit only by lamps, Rahman is accompanied by a small group of musicians and the song begins with a call for all women - “Maathare!”

This song from Bigil was leaked just a week ago on the internet, much to the dismay of the makers. The video that has now been released has pictures from the film, which shows a group of women training and practising football. It also shows Vijay coaching the players, including a happy-looking Nayanthara.

Besides the lead pair Vijay and Nayanthara, the star cast also includes Kathir, Daniel Balaji, Yogi Babu, Sai Dheena, Vivek, Anandraj and others. Bigil marks the third consecutive collaboration between AR Rahman and Vijay after Mersal and Sarkar.

Earlier, it was announced that Vijay had also sung for a song in this film. Archana Kalpathi, the film’s creative producer, had tweeted: “A big thank you to our #Thalapathy from all of us (His fans) for granting our request to sing in this album Trust me the song is #Verithanam Thank you @arrahman Sir, @Atlee_dir @Lyricist_Vivek for making this happen @SonyMusicSouth #Bigil.”

Bigil is expected to release for Deepavali this year. AGS Entertainments, the film’s producer, had erected huge sets that included a football stadium for filming this sports drama.
