“Have you heard of Bhavani?” This is the question with which the trailer of Nayanthara’s upcoming horror film Airaa opens. We get an idea of Nayanthara’s character in this film, her first of the two. A YouTube content creator, this Nayanthara sets out to film a fake paranormal video to spike her popularity on the platform.

This is when things take a turn for the worse. The famous ‘Blue Sattai’ YouTube reviewer, Maran, also makes an appearance in the trailer, thrashing the ‘fake paranormal video’ in his style. The butterfly makes an appearance quite frequently in the trailer.

During the film’s press meet that took place hours before the trailer’s launch on Wednesday, the video of two other songs - ‘Jinthako’ and ‘Megathoodam’ - were released.

Nayanthara as Bhavani, the one with the backstory, makes an appearance towards the very end and we hear the voice-over of a woman who vows vengeance on all those who separated her from the yet unknown Amudha. The butterfly motif appears one last time before the trailer ends on a glass panel.

Directed by Sarjun KM and produced by Kotapadi J Rajesh, Airaa is Nayanthara’s first film where she plays a dual role. The film also stars Kalaiyarasan, Yogi Babu, Jayaprakash and Malayalam actor Kulappulli Leela. The film is gearing up for release on March 28.

The film has music by 8 Thottakal fame KS Sundaramurthy, cinematography by Sudarshan Srinivasan and editing by Karthik Jogesh. The film’s story and screenplay have been penned by writer Priyanka Ravindran.
