The first single, ‘Marana Mass’, from Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Petta was released on Monday. Just hours before the song’s release, the makers had put out a sneak-peek of it's making, creating a buzz for the song.

The song video, a longer version of the recording, also reveals Rajini’s name in this film - Kaali. A peppy dance number, the song begins with Anirudh’s voice followed by SP Balasubrahmanyam’s. Interestingly, SPB has a very small portion in this song. Also, the film’s theme music that we heard in the motion poster features in ‘Marana Mass’ as well.

'Marana Mass' has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander with lyrics penned by Vivek.

This song, which would be Rajinikanth’s introduction song, marks his reunion with the singer after four years. Their combination was last heard in Lingaa that came out in 2014

The Rajinikanth-SPB combination is the most popular intro-song combination in Tamil cinema. The singer has given a good number of well-known introduction songs for the star - 'Ballelakka' from Sivaji, 'En Peru Padayappa' from Padayappa, 'Oruvan Oruvan Mudhalali' from Muthu, to name a few.

The film’s first-look and second look posters have created quite an expectation among fans.

Produced by Sun Pictures, Petta is being directed by Karthik Subbaraj of Pizza fame. The film also stars Bobby Simha, Vijay Sethupathi, Sasikumar, Simran, Trisha, Malayalam actor Manikandan R Achari and Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in lead roles.

Actor Malavika Mohanan, daughter of renowned cinematographer TU Mohanan, will be making her Tamil debut opposite superstar Rajinikanth in this film. In her interview to Times of India, Malavika has revealed that she’s really excited to have worked with Rajinikanth so early on in her career. “I am very excited to be working with Rajini sir at such an early stage in my career. He is an absolute delight to work… so humble and down to earth,” she was quoted saying.

Petta’s shoot was wrapped up in October and the film has been scheduled for Pongal 2019 release.
