Watch: 'Majili' trailer out, Naga Chaitanya and Samantha back together again on screen

Written by : TNM Staff

Actor Naga Chaitanya and Samantha's Majili trailer was released on Thursday on the occasion of Valentine’s Day. The film is described as ‘cricket based romantic film’.

The film’s trailer opens with Rao Ramesh's voice-over, "I am giving you one year period of time, within this, it is up to you whether you'll become Sachin or a Somberi (failure)."  Cut to that, you see a clean-shaven Naga Chaitanya wielding the bat, a young aspiring cricketer in love with the character played by Divyansha Kaushik.

However, Naga Chaitanya's character fails in the sport and eventually turns out to be an alcoholic. He then is supported by his wife, played by Samantha, who is his real life wife, too. Though married, and sharing the same roof, the hero remains dejected and it appears that he hasn't moved on from his passion or his past love.

In one scene he says to Samantha, "You may have entered into my room, but can never enter into my heart."  Going by the, 1.16 minute trailer, it looks like the film is about how an ideal "Indian wife" takes care of her husband, no matter how bad he is, course corrects him and bring him to the 'right' path. The plot looks very similar to Dhanush's Mr Karthik (Mayakkam Enna in Tamil), where a failed wildlife photographer, turns out to be a violent-alcoholic, eventually provided free "rehabilitation" by his wife, played by Richa Gangopadhyay. While the trailer doesn't offer a promising premise, we hope the film will surprise us.

Majili is the first film featuring Naga Chaitanya and Samantha after they got married. Actor Divyansha Kaushik is making her debut in Telugu with Majili. The film is directed by Shiva Nirvana, who had made his debut with Ninnu Kori starring Nani, Nivetha Thomas and Aadhi Pinisetty. The music for the film has been composed by Gopi Sundar, who previously worked with Naga Chaitanya in Telugu Premam. The film is produced by Sahu Garapati and Harish Peddi under the banner Shine Screens. The film will be released on April 5.
