Watch: Ilaiyaraaja sings romantic melody composed by YSR for 'Maari 2'

Written by : TNM Staff

The third song to be released from Maari 2 is a melody rendered by Ilaiyaraaja. Interestingly, the first film had no melody songs in it. Titled 'Maari’s Aanandhi', the female voice is by M Manasi. The video of this melodious duet that has been released now has scenes from the song's recording. Music director Yuvan Shankar Raja has worked with a small orchestra to record this song. The song's lyrics, which are romantic and quite suggestive, have been penned by Dhanush himself.

Pictures of Maari and Anandhi sharing moments together in the rain are also seen in this video. Speaking about this song to TNM, the director said, “There’s a melody song in Maari 2 which will be a surprise for many. Ilaiyaraaja sir has rendered it. The song itself is very important to the film.”

Two other songs - 'Maari Gethu' and 'Rowdy Baby' were released earlier. 'Rowdy Baby’, has been crooned by Dhanush and Dhee. The lines have been penned by Dhanush. Maari 2 marks the reunion of Dhanush and Yuvan Shankar Raja after a hiatus of nearly a decade.

Maari 2 is director Balaji Mohan’s sequel to his film Maari that was released in 2015. The cinematographer for this film is Om Prakash, production design is by Amaran and editing by Prasanna GK. Balaji Mohan has both written and directed the film. Maari 2 is being produced by Dhanush’s production Wunderbar Films.

Sai Pallavi, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Tovino Thomas, Robo Shankar, Krishna and Kalloori Vinot form the rest of the film’s cast.

The film will hit screens on December 21 along with Jayam Ravi’s Adanga Maru, Aishwarya Rajesh's Kanaa and Vishnu Vishal’s Silukuvaarpatti Singam.

The director has said that Maari 2 will have a lot more content. “While the first film remained a fun, mass entertainer, there will be a lot more emotional content in the second. The story is a lot more rounded and will have better emotional connection with the audience. The new characters will play a big part in Maari 2 and the story is a lot more layered. The fun aspect of it is retained from the first but we’ve tried to make its content better,” he said in an interview to TNM.
