Written by : TNM Staff

A little over two months after the demise of SP Balasubrahmanyam, a group of artistes have come together to pay tribute to the legendary singer in the form of a music video. Tuesday marks SPB’s 54th playback anniversary, the beginning of a prolific career that saw him recording over 40,000 songs, and this song titled Isai Anjali has been released to mark this date.

Four artistes — Srinivas, Haricharan Seshadri, Uthara Unnikrishnan and Anirudh Ravichander — feature in the music tribute celebrating SPB and his music. The music video has been produced and released in collaboration with Brooke Bond 3 Roses. The video of Isai Anjali has been directed by Krishna Marimuthu, known for films such as Yuddham Sharanam and Dharala Prabhu.

The tribute is set to the tune of SPB’s song ‘Anjali Anjali’ from the film Duet, one of the oft repeated and popular numbers by the singer. The high pitch he takes in this song is a definite goosebump moment for all his fans. A crowd favourite, there are many live recordings of this song by SPB.

Now with lyrics penned by Madhan Karky, the song’s video takes us through different timelines and different settings. Visuals show that SPB’s music was beyond age and class differences, and served as a unifying factor among his fans.

Shiva Krishnamurthy, Vice President, Tea & Foods (HUL), in a press release notes, “This heartfelt tribute is a token of our love and admiration for SPB. People across generations have bonded over his songs, much like the way they have over tasty cups of Brooke Bond 3 Roses. We hope this video helps people celebrate his memory.”

Singer SP Balasubrahmanya had contracted COVID-19 in August this year and was undergoing medical treatment at a private hospital in Chennai. While he recovered from the disease, it took a toll on his lungs. After being hospitalised for over 50 days, he passed away on September 25.
