'Viswasam’ collection crosses Rs 125 crore in TN alone says distributor

Written by : TNM Staff

Distributors of the recent Ajith-starrer Viswasam have claimed that the film completed a gross collection of Rs 125 crores across Tamil Nadu on Thursday. This, hours after the producers of Petta, the film’s Pongal rival, tweeted about the box office collections.

Anticipation has been rife on which film did better at the movies since both were big star vehicles, one with Ajith and the other with Rajinikanth. With trade analysts in the industry making one guess after another, many had been waiting for official figures.

In a tweet on Thursday, Viswasam distributor KJR Studios said, “#Viswasam125CroresVettai - Angali pangali ooda aadharavula #Viswasam has crossed 125 crores gross in TAMIL NADU alone by the end of today! Thank you makkaley”

Meanwhile, Sun Pictures, that bankrolled Petta has claimed that it is the first Tamil film to cross 100 crores in 11 days across Tamil Nadu alone. In a tweet on Thursday, the film's international distributor said that Petta has collected Rs 65 crores worldwide.

While Petta had a simultaneous Tamil and Telugu release, Viswasam was released only in Tamil.

However, with Viswasam distributor claiming the movie made Rs 125 crore in TN alone, it seems like earlier reports that the Ajith movie had fared better than Rajinikanth's in the state, were true.

Petta, which marks Subbaraj’s first-time collaboration with Rajinikanth, also stars Trisha, Simran, Sasikumar, veteran filmmaker Mahendran, Megha and Bobby Simhaa in key roles. Trisha is sharing screen space with Rajinikanth for the first time. The film, which has been shot predominantly in north India, has music by Anirudh Ravichander.

Viswasam, on the other hand, marks the fourth consecutive collaboration of Siva and Ajith and features the actor in dual avatars - in salt-and-pepper and fully dyed black look. D Imman is the music composer of Viswasam and the core technical crew includes Vetri for camera and editing by Ruben. The film was bankrolled by Arjun Thyagarajan and Sendhil Thyagarajan under the banner Sathya Jyothi Films.
