Visaranai out of Oscar race

Written by : TNM

Film buffs had been waiting eagerly for the Vettrimaran directorial Visaranai to make it to the Oscar nominations but it hasn’t.

There were 85 films from various parts of the world competing for the coveted Oscar award and 10 films have been shortlisted. The films that have been shortlisted are:

Australia - Tanna - directors Bentley Dean, Martin Butler

Canada - It’s Only the End of the World - director Xavier Dolan

Denmark - Land of Mine - director Martin Zandvliet

Germany - Toni Erdmann - director Maren Ade

Iran - The Salesman - director Asghar Farhadi

Norway - The King’s Choice - director Erik Poppe

Russia - Paradise - director Andrei Konchalovsky

Sweden - A Man Called Ove - director Hannes Holm

Switzerland - My Life as a Zucchini - director Claude Barras.

It is indeed disappointing to know that Visaranai did not make it to the Oscar Awards for Best Foreign Language Film category. Well, better luck next time.

Incidentally, the film, produced jointly by Vettrimaran and Dhanush, went on to win several national and international awards.
