The sequel to the 2014 blockbuster hit Velai Illadha Pattadhari, which hit the marquee last month, has reached its 25th day at the box office. Though it opened to mixed reviews, it continued its run at the box office, thanks to Dhanush’s screen presence and acting skills.

On the film reaching its 25th day, its director Soundarya Rajinikanth sent out a note thanking everybody for making it a success. Her note read:

“Thank you all for making our film a huge success! VIP2 will always be one of the most memorable experiences for me. Thank you Dhanush sir for having faith in me and being my mentor. Thank you Thanu uncle for always trusting me and supporting my work. Thank you Paranthaman sir for everything. Thank you Kajol maam for being a part of this film, you are so special to us. Thank you Samuthirakani anna, Vivek sir, Saranya madam, Amala Paul, Ritu, Rishi and all my cast. Thank u Sean Roldan, Sameer Thahir, GK Prasanna, Arvind Ashok Kumar, Satish, and Arasu master, Tapas Nayak, Subramaniam Shiva anna, my choreographers, costume designers, all my assistant directors and my entire crew. Thank you friends of the media and press. Thank you Riyaz sir and Babu sir. Thank you God!!!!”

It may be mentioned that VIP 2 starred Dhanush and Amala Paul as the lead pair with the Bollywood actor Kajol playing a pivotal role. It also has Samuthirakani, Saranya Ponvannan and Vivek in the star cast. The film is produced jointly by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films and Kalaipuli S Dhanu’s V. Creations.

Reports suggest that Dhanush and team are planning to go ahead with VIP 3 and the groundwork has begun already. While Velraj had directed VIP and Soundarya its sequel, it would be interesting to see who will wield the megaphone for the next.
