After Rajinikanth’s “Kabali” and Vijay’s “Theri”, Vikram-starrer Tamil sci-fi action-thriller “Iru Mugan”, which released in cinemas on Sep 8, is the third highest grossing film of the year in Tamil Nadu so far.

“In the first six days in Tamil Nadu, the film grossed Rs 29.25 crore. This is the third biggest grossing film in the state after ‘Kabali’ and ‘Theri’,” Mahesh of Auraa Cinemas, who released the film in Tamil Nadu, said at the film's success meet. He added, “We had released the film in 450 screens and all the theatre owners are happy to continue screening for two more weeks.”

In the film, Vikram played dual roles – of a RAW agent and an eccentric scientist. Produced by Shibu Thameens, the film also stars Nayanthara and Nithya Menen.
