Actor Vikram has been working non-stop this year barring the brief break he took for his daughter’s wedding last week. He began this year with Gautham Menon’s spy thriller Dhruva Natchathiram and soon commenced work on Sketch as well. He went on to complete Sketch as he had committed to complete the project within a stipulated period of time. Post Sketch, he went back to finish his portion in Dhruva Natchathiram, which marks his first time collaboration with Gautham Menon.
His third film of the year is Saamy 2, the sequel to the highly successful early 2000s blockbuster Saamy. For reasons unknown, the sequel was rechristened Saamy Square and it was launched with Keerthy Suresh and Trisha, who very recently walked out of the project citing creative differences.
At this rate, Vikram will have three releases next year because all the three projects will be ready by year-end. It has to be seen if these films make it to the theatres without any delay. Nevertheless, 2018 will be a busy year for Vikram with multiple releases. He hasn’t signed any new projects and going by the industry grapevine, he is keeping himself available for Dhruva Natchathiram, which has been planned as a trilogy.
“Gautham wanted to do a film along the lines of The Bourne series, in a way that would suit Indian sensibilities. Dhruva Natchathiram was always planned as a franchise but it wasn’t decided if it will have three parts or more. Impressed and confident with how the film has shaped so far, Gautham decided to go ahead with the trilogy idea and has also convinced Vikram to come on board,” a source said.
The film’s talkie portion should be completed by next month. The next four months will be spent on post-production and the film will release as planned in April next year. The film was shot in key locations outside India, especially in Europe and the US. After shooting a song in Turkey for Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada, Gautham Menon wanted to return to the country to shoot some important portions in Dhruva Natchathiram.
Apparently, it is also rumoured that Vikram will take a couple of months’ break to oversee the shoot of his son Dhruv’s debut film, a remake of recent Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy. The remake will be directed by Bala, who was instrumental in shaping Vikram’s career with films such as Sethu and Pithamagan.
