The pooja for the Vikram starrer Mahavir Karna took place at the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala recently. The film, as the title suggests, is a historical on Karna, who was a close associate of Duryodhana and the Kauravas in the Mahabharata epic. To be helmed by Malayalam director RS Vimal, the film is to be released in Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi. A pooja was performed for a holy bell that is to be attached to a huge chariot being built for the movie. We hear that the grand chariot will be adorned with 1,001 bells and can accommodate around 1,000 people.

To be made on a huge budget of Rs 300 crore, Mahavir Karna is being bankrolled by New York-based production house United Film Kingdom. The shooting will commence in January next year with the release planned sometime during the first half of 2020.

About the muhurat, the film’s team posted a message from the director on social media along with pictures from the pooja:

“Mahavir Karna starts from the land of Sree Padmanabha… Received a holy Temple Bell in front of Sree Padmanabha which is going to be a part of the 30 feet high chariot of Karna in the movie.

From today we have started building the Chariot…

RS Vimal made his directorial debut in 2015 with the Malayalam film Ennu Ninte Moideen, for which he received the Filmfare Award for Best Director – Malayalam.

Meanwhile, Vikram is busy with the Gautham Menon directorial Dhruva Natchathiram. The shooting of this film is in the last leg with the release scheduled for next year. He has also inked a deal to star in the Rajesh Selva directorial Kadaram Kondan.
