Vijay Sethupathi with Rajini in Karthik Subbaraj's next: Is he the villain?

Written by : TNM Staff

It was announced a couple of months ago that actor Rajinikanth would pair up with Jigarthanda director Karthik Subbaraj for his next film. The latest news from the industry is that actor Vijay Sethupathi will also join this bandwagon. This will be the first time that Vijay will be collaborating with Superstar Rajinikanth.

Sun Pictures, the film’s producers, tweeted this update from their official Twitter handle. And as soon as the announcement was made, rumours started doing the rounds that Vijay Sethupathi is possibly the villain in the film.

Though Rajinikanth has entered Tamil Nadu politics, he is not done with his acting career just yet. He has two films slated for release this year – Pa Ranjith's Kaala and Shankar's 2.O, the sequel to Enthiran. The superstar seems to be keen on working with younger filmmakers with fresh ideas, instead of senior directors who have been casting him in the same mold for years.

Karthik Subbaraj’s recent film Mercury, a silent thriller, released a couple of weeks ago to positive reviews. The film stars Prabhu Deva, Sananth Reddy, Deepak Paramesh, Anish Padman, Shashank and Remya Nambeesan.

Karthik had collaborated with Vijay most of his previous films and this latest announcement may not come as a surprise to his fans. The young director shot to fame with Pizza, a horror film which also gave Vijay great acclaim.

Speaking about his upcoming project, Subbaraj confirmed in an interview to a YouTube channel, that it will be an action-thriller set against a gangster backdrop.

Vijay was last seen in Arumugakumar’s Oru Nalla Naal Pathu Solren. The actor has several films lined up for release this year including Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s Super Deluxe, Balaji Tharaneetharan's Seethkaathi and Mani Rathnam’s Chekka Chivandha Vaanam.

Sun Pictures has previously produced Rajinikanth’s Enthiran and is also producing Vijay’s upcoming, yet to be titled film, directed by AR Murugadoss.
