Vijay Sethupathi and Prabhu Deva films to clash at box office

Come August 24 and two important films in the Tamil film industry will be out at the theatres. Clashing at the box office would be Prabhu Deva’s Lakshmi and Vijay Sethupathi’s production venture Merkku Thodarchi Malai.

Interestingly, Merkku Thodarchi Malai has been screened at the 21st International Film Festival of Kerala and was  honoured with the award for Best Cinematography at the Bioscope Global Film Festival, Punjab. In IFFT 2017 (12th International Film Festival of Thrissur), it was selected for K W Joseph All India debut film competition and won the KW Joseph award in 2017. It was also selected at the Singapore South Asian International Film Festival and Chicago South Asian Film Festival.

Merkku Thodarchi Malai is directed by debutant Lenin Bharathi and stars Antony, Gayathri Krishna and Abu Valayankulam in leading roles. The film is bankrolled by Vijay Sethupathi under his banner Vijay Sethupathi Productions. The technical crew of this flick includes Ilayaraja for music composition, Theni Easwar for cinematography and Mu. Kasi Viswanathan for editing.

On August 24, another Tamil film, Lakshmi will also hit the marquee. Written and directed by AL Vijay, the film has Prabhu Deva in the lead role with Ditya Bhande and Aishwarya Rajesh as heroines. Sam CS is the music director for this flick with Nirav Shah cranking the camera and Anthony editing it.

Lakshmi is bankrolled by Prateek Chakravorty, Shruti Nallappa and R. Ravindran under the banner Pramod Films Trident Arts. This film is based on the Hindi movie Lakshmi directed by Nagesh Kukunoor in 2014.

With both Merkku Thodarchi Malai and Lakshmi lined up for release on August 24, film buffs can expect a treat at the box office.
