Vijay’s Theri grosses Rs 100 cr worldwide

Written by : TNM

Vijay’s Theri continues to rock at the box office, despite facing some hurdles during its release in Tamil Nadu. Three weeks since its release in cinemas, the film has grossed over Rs 100 crore, breaking several records including Ajith’s box-office feat in Tamil Nadu.

According to trade sources, Theri has registered a share of Rs 45 crore from Tamil Nadu alone, making it the second best Tamil film after Rajinikanth’s Enthiran. Despite stiff competition from Suriya’s 24, Atlee-directed Theri has held its ground.

Even though the film opened to mixed reactions, with people openly comparing it to Rajinikanth’s Baasha, there was no stopping Theri at the box-office. The film performed exceptionally well overseas, especially in North America where it became the first Vijay-starrer to enter the $1 Million club. Even in countries like France and Australia, Theri has garnered very good numbers. In the film, Vijay who plays an aggressive cop and a doting father, was paired with Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson.

After the colossal flop of Puli, trade pundits believe Theri helped Vijay bounce back in style. The Thuppakki star, meanwhile, has started working on his next project, which is being directed by Bharathan. It features Keerthy Suresh as his co-star along with Daniel Balaji and Harish Uthaman.
