Vignesh Shivan loses cool over remark that Suriya’s ‘TSK’ was not a hit

Written by : Digital Native

When a film industry tracker tweeted that there were no hits in the month of January, he might not have realised that it would cause a big stir among film personalities, particularly Vignesh Shivan, the director of the Suriya starrer, Thaana Serntha Kootam.

Reacting to the tweet, the director posted a series of tweets ranting about how industry trackers have turned out to be a bane to the film industry. In the tweets, he posted: “A film’s number game is only a producer’s thing! Audience r here to enjoy,It’s all jus entertainment! Gone r the days whn we used to enjoy every film! Every1 has become critical abt evrything! not needed. It a beautiful life &let’s jus try to be positive #IgnoreNegativity.” (sic)

Venting his ire in another tweet, he wrote, “Not movie maniac!! Jus maniac !!! Dear producers !! Please stop encouraging such people atleast from now on ! Else this is what they wil do !! They make a living out of us! Our blood n sweat !! & then they do this also end of the day! Hard times !@kegvraja https://twitter.com/lmkmoviemaniac/status/959269134604255240 …”

Joining in support of the TSK director, director Gaurav Narayan and producer SR Prabhu also posted similar tweets echoing the same sentiments. Producer SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures said how the spreading of ‘unnecessary information’ about the collection of a film was fuelling an unhealthy trend among fans.

“Trade tracker / film critic / reviewer / media journalist – Competition brought all these roles to one. They feed unnecessary information to audience. Now fans fight on collection than content. Is there nothing to speak about content and performance of actor for fans? SCARY!!,” he tweeted.

TSK, which had Suriya and Keerthy Suresh as the lead pair, was a Pongal release this year. It was based on the Hindi movie Special 26, which had Akshay Kumar in the lead role. According to trade reports, the film had collected Rs 90 crore during its first 10-day run at the box office worldwide. In Tamil Nadu alone, it collected Rs 42.3 crore, report sources. While the film had grossed Rs 67.50 crore in India, the collections stood at Rs 22.50 crore from overseas.

The star cast of this film included Ramya Krishnan, Karthik and Nanda in pivotal roles. Bankrolled by KE Gnanavel Raja under his banner Studio Green, TSK opened to packed houses. A Telugu version title Gang has also been released.
