Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor has become a single father of a baby boy who was born through in vitro fertilization (IVF) and surrogacy.

The 39-year-old "Mastizaade" actor has named the baby "Laksshya".

"I am thrilled to be a father! The paternal instincts in me have been overpowering my heart and mind for some time now.

Therefore, I am thrilled beyond words to have Laksshya, now the greatest source of joy in my life," Tusshar said in a statement.

Tusshar's parents Shobha and Jeetendra Kapoor are also thrilled with the new addition to their family.

"We could not be more excited to be grandparents to Laksshya, and are completely supportive of Tusshar's decision.

This is certainly a tremendous blessing, and an exciting time in our lives," Shobha said.

NDTV reported that the IVF treatment was led by Firuza Parikh, Director of IVF and Genetics at the Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre.

"I am impressed with Tusshar's determination to be a father. He maintained a keen interest in the baby's health at every stage. He will surely be a sensitive and nurturing parent," Dr Parikh.
This is not the first time that Bollywood has chosen surrogacy. Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s third child AbRam was born via surrogacy, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao too had opted for surrogacy.
