Third Hindi film of AR Murugadoss to release on Friday, first with female lead as the hero

Written by : TNM Staff

“Akira”, directed by AR Murugadoss, and starring Sonakshi Sinha in the lead is all set to hit the theatres this Friday. The film is a remake of the Tamil sleeper hit, “Mouna Guru”.

Interestingly, Murugadoss has chosen to rewrite the script and give the male lead’s role to Sonakshi. Murugadoss is known for his racy action stories but for the first time a female actor has been cast as the the “hero” in his film.

The trailer shows Sonakshi making some mean moves:

Other actors include Anurag Kashyap who plays the antagonist, and Konkana Sen Sharma.

Muragadoss has directed two Hindi films so far, “Ghajini” and “Holiday”, which were remakes of his own blockbuster Tamil films.

Sonakshi’s last film, “Tevar”, was once again the Hindi remake of a Tamil film. However, though “Ghilli” had a good run at the box office, “Tevar” proved to be a damp squib. It remains to be seen what fate “Akira” will meet – the trailer does look promising!
