Dhanush's long-delayed Tamil romantic-thriller "Thodari", which has garnered attention for being completely shot in a train, is set to hit screens worldwide on September 22. However, Dhanush fans in Karnataka are unlikely to see the film in theatres.

As the tension between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka continues following the Supreme Court’s direction to Karnataka to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, distributors are unlikely to release the film the state.

Theatre owners in the state are unwilling to screen any Tamil film until the situation returns to normal, as some Karnataka groups have reportedly threatened theatres about screening Tamil movies

As a result, Maheshwari Enterprises, the distributors who had secured the Karnataka theatrical rights of “Thodari” for a record price, are set to suffer heavy losses. 

“Thodari” is the second highly-awaited film whose release has suffered as a result of the ongoing Cauvery dispute, after Vikram's high-octane action thriller “Iru Mugan” failed to release earlier.

Directed by Prabhu Solomon, “Thodari” features Dhanush as a pantry worker on a New Delhi-Chennai train and Keerthy as the make-up artist for a popular actress. The story revolves around how the two characters fall in love during a train journey.
