It was announced a few years ago that R Madhavan will star in the Tamil remake of Dulquer Salmaan’s Charlie and that it will be directed by AL Vijay. For reasons unknown, the project never took off and both Vijay and Madhavan moved on to their respective commitments. According to the latest reports, the project might be revived soon with Madhavan but this time it will be directed by debutant Dhileepan. According to a report by DTNext, the makers are currently busy scouting for locations and are expected to begin filming by September.

Charlie’s Tamil remake will be directed by debutant Dhileepan and Madhavan will be essaying the lead role in it. The makers of the film are scouting locations as the shoot is all set to begin in the first week of September. Other cast and crew are yet to be finalised. An official announcement will be made once Madhavan completes his other commitments,” a source was quoted in the report by DTNext. Apparently, Parvathy, who played the female lead in the original, will be reprise her role in the remake as well. Charlie tells the story of a graphic artist Tessa, played by Parvathy, who goes in search of a mysterious carefree vagabond called Charlie, played by Dulquer.

Madhavan is currently busy with the post-production of his upcoming film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, based on the life of ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan, who was framed in a fake espionage case and was later acquitted. In order to transform into the septuagenarian scientist, Madhavan sought the help of his Rang De Basanti co-star Aamir Khan. The role required him to put on weight as he plays the character at different stages of his life, from the age of 27 to 75. On being signed on for the project, Madhavan has earlier said that it’s going to be the most exciting film of his career.
