Sunny Wayne and Oviya have been signed up to play the lead pair in the upcoming film Black Coffee, which will be directed by actor Baburaj. In this film, Sunny Wayne will be seen playing an aspiring filmmaker, we hear.

About the lead characters, the director has said in an interview to the Times of India, “His character Davis works as an assistant director and dreams of directing his movie soon. Oviya plays an American Malayali who comes down to Kochi with dreams of becoming an actor. When she realises that it isn't as easy as she thought, she becomes a successful model.”

Adding more about the film, he said, “We are trying to showcase the life of girls who come to Kochi from far and wide, to chase their dreams. The film has Lena, Oviya, Rachana Narayanankutty and newbie Orma Bose playing flat mates.” Lena will be seen playing a costume director while Rachana will be playing the role of the head of a multinational company and Orma as a student. Thesni Khan has been roped in to play a maid.

According to the director, Black Coffee is a spinoff of Salt n Pepper, the 2010 film directed by Aashiq Abu. Food plays the central character in the film, as it did in Salt N’ Pepper. Baburaj, Lal, Shwetha Menon and Mythili will be seen reprising the roles they had done in Salt N’ Pepper. Baburaj has earlier said, “The story begins when my character in Salt N’ Pepper, cook Babu, leaves Kalidasan's home after he marries Maya. He turns insecure as he continues to be a chronic bachelor, a bhrahmachari who is shy around women. He feels Kalidasan has no affection towards him anymore.”

Black Coffee is under progress and is likely to hit the marquee for Onam this year.
