Actor-singer Shruti Haasan recently met Oscar winning music director AR Rahman at his LA studio. Putting out a picture on Instagram, she wrote, “Incredible evening spent with the legend A.R. Rahman in his amazing LA studio! music and more music surrounds my life. Blessed.”

She would also be making her television debut, by hosting an upcoming talk show on Sun TV, titled ‘Hello Sago’.

Shruti Haasan, before donning the greasepaint, had always evinced interest in music. The musician-turned-actor had been singing right from the age of six with her first playback singing happening for her father Kamal Haasan’s film Thevar Magan. The rendition for the Ilyaraja music won her a lot of appreciation. She debuted as music composer for Unnaipol Oruvan, which released in 2009. Directed by Chakri Toleti, the film starred Kamal Haasan in the lead role. Besides her playback singing and music compositions for films, Shruti is also the vocalist of the music band Extramentals.

On the acting front, Shruti had walked out of Sundar C’s magnum opus Sanghamitra citing that she was not given the full script as promised when she had accepted the offer. The film was launched at Cannes International Film Festival last year.

Her next film release would be Sabaash Naidu, a trilingual that will be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. When Sabash Naidu commenced, it was revealed that the project would be directed by TK Rajeev Kumar. But after directing for a couple of days, he suffered a major illness following which Kamal Haasan took over the mantle from him. While Shruti Haasan will be playing a role in the film, his younger daughter Akshara Haasan will be assisting him in direction.

Sabash Naidu is based on the Balram Naidu character in Kamal’s Dasavatharam. The film is bankrolled jointly by Kamal Haasan, S. Chandrahasan and A. Subaskaran under the banners Lyca Productions and Raaj Kamal Films International.

It stars Kamal Haasan, Brahmanandam, Shruti Haasan, Ramya Krishnan, Manu Narayan and Jason Shah. Ilayaraja is composing music for this venture with Jaya Krishna Gummadi cranking the camera.
