Ajith’s last outing Viswasam was recently dubbed in Kannada and released with the title Jaga Malla. The dubbing rights were acquired and released by Horizon Studio last month. But the film did not do as well at the box office as expected. Following this, the makers have now decided to do a direct remake of the film in Kannada.

According to the industry grapevine, Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar is impressed with the film and wants to reprise the role played by Ajith in the original.

Speaking to Silverscreen, Shiva Rajkumar said, “Talks are on and I will be confirming it in two to three days. I’ve spoken to the producers and it is very likely to be finalised. I liked Ajith’s performance in Viswasam. There’s a lovely sentiment and it’s an emotional family drama. The Kannada audience will definitely enjoy the film.”

While the rest of the cast and crew are yet to be finalised, the principal shooting of the film might commence in November or December this year.

It might be noted here that Shiva Rajkumar is starring in the remake of the hit Malayalam movie Oppam. Titled Kavacha, the star plays the lead role with Kruthika Jayakumar as his female lead. He will be playing a visually challenged man in the film and 30 to 35% of the script has been changed to suit Kannada audiences. Bankrolled by MVV Sathyanarayanan, Rahul Shrivastav is cranking the camera for the film while music is being composed by Arjun Janya.

Meanwhile, Shiva Rajkumar’s next release will be Rustum. The film, which has gone into the post-production mode, is produced by Jayanna and Bhogendra under the banner Jayanna Combines. Shraddha Srinath has been roped in to play the lead opposite Shiva Rajkumar and Mayuri will be seen as his sister. He also has films such as SRK, Drona, Anand and My Name Is Anji under production.
