If you thought Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam is the biggest Tamil multi-starrer in recent times, you might want to take a look at the cast of superstar Rajinikanth’s Petta, his upcoming film with Karthik Subbaraj.

With an already excellent line-up of star cast featuring Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Simran, Trisha, Megha Akash, Malavika Mohanan and Bobby Simhaa among others, actor-filmmaker Sasikumar is the latest addition to this ensemble as he’s been roped in for a special cameo.

According to the industry grapevine, Sasikumar has already shot his portion in the current schedule of the film in Varanasi where the team will shoot for nearly a month.

Last seen on screen in the drama Asuravadham, Sasikumar recently shot for a cameo in Dhanush’s Enai Nokki Paayum Thota, which has been directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon.

It was at the behest of Subbaraj, Sasikumar agreed to be part of the project, in which Rajinikanth is rumoured to be playing a professor with a violent past. The second look of the superstar – sporting a handlebar mustache – was released on Thursday and it took his fans by total surprise. It is believed that Rajinikanth will be seen in two avatars in the film.

Petta marks Subbaraj’s first-time collaboration with Rajinikanth. On teaming up with the 67-year-old star, Subbaraj had said he sees it as a fascinating opportunity to make his dream come true. The film is being bankrolled by Sun Pictures on a lavish budget.

The title and motion poster of the film were released last month amid very high expectations and was received by a mixed response. The entire motion poster – featuring Rajinikanth turning and walking in slow motion – unfolds inside a church. If everything goes as planned, the film might hit the screens next year during the summer.
